The CBCCEDP seeks to decrease the number of breast cancer related deaths among women in the community by providing reduced cost or free screening and treatment, as well as thorough education and research advancement. The Komen Connecticut grant will help cover services for uninsured and underinsured women with fees not reimbursable by the Early Detection Program.

This project is designed to increase the availability of mammography services to inner-city women, mainly Latina, African American, and elderly women, living in New Haven. The program includes the use of the mammography van, assisting patients to access screening services at hospitals, providing follow up with patients who receive abnormal readings, and providing direct support and referrals for uninsured patients.

This program offers a complex network of supports and wellness services designed to empower women to participate more fully.

This program serves mastectomy patients and their caregivers by providing Necessities Bags free of charge. The reusable canvas tote contains wound care supplies, other items for personal comfort and hygiene, a pamphlet of practical tips about managing the hospital stay and planning for homecoming. A Spanish translation is available.
